I missed Sourav Ganguly during my delivery too, says wife Dona
Mumbai: Team India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni's absence at the time of his wife Sakshi's first delivery in India should not be seen as a matter of concern, according to Dona Ganguly, the wife of former India captain Sourav Ganguly.
Like Dhoni, who is on national duty in Australia for defending the World Cup, Ganguly was playing in South Africa when his wife Dona gave birth to a baby girl in 2001.
"The newly born child cannot recognise the father and therefore it (absence) hardly matters,” said Dona.
"The child needs the mother that time,” she added.
"Yes, I did miss Sourav at the time of delivery of our first (and only) daughter but then he was playing for the country.”
"The news of birth of our baby reached to Sourav before me. Owing to the surgery I was unconscious for few hours. He got the news before I gained consciousness. There were relatives by my bed and I was happy,” said Dona.
"Sourav could meet our daughter only after a month or so and I wish good luck to Dhoni and his family," she concluded.
Assuming India plays the World Cup final on March 29 and Dhoni does not return in between, his daughter would be 50 days old by then.
Sourav and Dona named their daughter Sana (two alphabets of parents), one would not have surprised if Mashi or Mahi was the new name of Dhonis' daughter. Interestingly, Dhoni himself is also known as Mahi. However, the family has preferred the name Ziva.
