Telangana government to fight for power from AP projects

Sources said that the matter could end up in court

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has once again displayed its resolve to take the issue of Krishnapatnam power dispute to its logical end. This was quite evident in the proposals made by the two distribution companies which said that they would get a 53.89 per cent share from the Krishnapatnam super thermal power station in Nellore district and the Hinduja power station in Visakhapatnam.

Calculating that they would get about 650-700 MW of power from both the plants in 2015-16, the discoms, however, made it clear that they would buy from outside whenever required. The AP discoms have ruled out sharing Krishnapatnam and Hinduja power with the TS government saying that they need the entire power generated. The 800 MW KTPS reached commercial operation stage recently, but APGenco tripped soon after due to lack of coal.

TS Genco has termed it as a deliberate attempt on the part of their counterpart to avoid sharing of power with them. “We have already complained about the matter to the CEA and SRLDC. The CM has also written to the Prime Minister. We have kept all options open and if necessary we will knock on the doors of the court to get our share,” Mr Prabhakara Rao, the CMD of TS Transco said.

Now that the discoms’ proposals too have mentioned about it there is a strong possibility of a stalemate until the CEA steps in. The AP government thinks that any dilution on the stand would amount to accepting the power sharing pattern which it feels is unscientific. The issue assumes political significance and the TD government will have to tread a cautious path. Top sources said that the matter could end up in court.
