K. Chandrasekhar Rao seeks liberal assistance from Centre

KCR reminded Modi of funds promised to Telangana at bifurcation

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to be liberal in assisting Telangana as the state is now implementing sche-mes that the Centre is proposing for the entire country.

The CM who was given an opportunity to speak for three minutes at the Chief Ministers’ conference convened by Prime Minister Modi on Sunday, told the Centre that both Mission Kakatiya (cleaning rural irrigation and drinking water tanks) and the Drinking Water Grid proposed by Telangana government is similar to projects proposed by the Centre for execution across the nation. Mr Rao also demanded liberal assistance from the Centre for the two bedroom housing scheme for the poor in the state, as the Centre is now thinking of constructing two room houses for poor.

Welcoming the constitution of Niti Aayog to replace the Planning Commission, the Telangana CM insisted that the quantum of Plan funds promised to Telangana and the promises the Centre made while dividing AP should be implemented. He emphasised that in view of the Budget session of the Telangana Assembly next month, there is urgency in getting funds released from the Centre.

The TS government special representative in Delhi, Dr S. Venugop-alachary said that after the CMs’ conference, Mr Rao instructed the chief secretary to speed up the construction of toilets in all state schools before June. “Since the Centre is bearing most of the cost, the CM has asked the chief secretary to implement the toilet project on a war footing,” Mr Venugopala Chary said.

The Chief Minister also ordered regular review meetings on implementation of the 'swachh bharat' programme in the state. The Chief Minister who is camping in New Delhi since three days will hold a luncheon meeting with Union minister Venkaiah Naidu on Monday.
