Missing baby: Police hunt for kidnapper
Hyderabad: A day after a newborn boy was allegedly kidnapped near the Jubilee Bus Station, about seven special teams including task force officials are trying to find him. Every possible place is being searched and data about previous cases and kidnappers is being collected. However, cops claim there is no clue so far.
The North Zone police which formed three special teams late on Saturday night after the incident increased the number of teams on Sunday. Teams visited bus stations, railway stations and hospitals in the city to identify the child. Hospitals including Gandhi, Osmania and Niloufer, railway stations like Nampally, MGBS and child rescue homes were searched.
“We are checking hospitals and enquiring if any suspicious woman approa-ched them with a newborn child. In some cases, the accused, scared of the consequences leave kids at hospitals. Police stations have been alerted and photos distributed,” said sub-inspector V. Ravi Kumar of Marredpally who is leading one of the search teams. Teams are also checking surveillance camera footage available at railway stations and bus stations to identify the accused woman. Officials said slums in areas like Tukaram Gate and Bowenpally and Monda Market are being searched as there can be criminals staying there.
During investigation, police checked the CCTV footage available at Sweekar Upkaar and other places at the Jubilee Bus Station, but couldn’t find the accused. “We suspect the kidnap wasn’t preplanned but spontaneous. The child’s mother had just handed him over to the accused who was close by and went on to control her other child. Taking advantage of this the kidnapper escaped,” said an official. Earlier, cops said surveillance cameras were not in place at JBS even after instructing the authorities.
On Saturday, B. Rajitha, a tailor and native of Karimnagar district came to the city with her mother. They came to JBS to return home. While trying to control her three-year-old son who kept running away she handed over the 18-month-old who is a twin to a 50-year-old woman nearby. By the time she returned the woman was missing.
