Extortion: Mumbai police nab businessman
Kin says he paid money to victim earlier
Hyderabad: A businessman from Secunderabad was arrested by the Mumbai police for threatening and extorting money from his ex-girlfriend from Mumbai.
Sheikh Salahuddin, 30, who is also a realtor, allegedly threatened the victim from Colaba saying that he would release the video of his intimate scenes with her online. Mumbai police said that he allegedly demanded Rs 3 crore from her.
Mumbai crime branch officials and a police team from the Gamdevi police station picked him up from Hyderabad and took him to Mumbai after producing him before a local court four days ago.
The police had booked him under the Indian Penal Code for making threats and extortion and under the Information Technology Act. The victim, who was married before and has a son, had lodged a complaint at the Gamdevi police station stating that she had met Shaikh a year back in Colaba and they got close to each other. Their friendship soon turned physical, she said. However, Sheik concealed the fact that he was a divorcee with a child. When she wanted to end the relationship, he started harassing her.
However, Sheik told the police that he had married the victim after completing all formalities and had paid her Rs 3 crore. “Shaikh claimed that he had married her in the presence of a Muslim priest. But she said that she did not know that it was a wedding ceremony,” a police officer said.
Sources close to Shaikh said that it was only a dispute between them after the wedding and that he had only asked her to pay back the '3 crore he had paid earlier. He is fighting it out in court as he has proof, they said.
