Cops had blamed the girl’s Facebook, WhatsApp pals for her death

Lucknow: The students of two prestigious schools in Lucknow have decided to sign off from social networking sites and instant messenger systems as a protest against the brutal murder of Gauri Srivastava whose body was chopped into pieces and scattered over an area of one square kilometer earlier this week. The police, who have failed miserably in identifying and tracing the killers, have conveniently blamed the murder on Gauri’s Facebook and WhatsApp friends.
Students of Loreto Convent and its sister institution St Agnes School have decided to deactivate their accounts on Facebook and WhatsApp with immediate effect as a mark of protest against the police theory.
Ravika Kumar, a student of St Agnes, said, “If such brutal murders are being caused by social networking sites, then we all are signing off. Let us see if crime stops after that. Gauri was my senior and one of the most spirited and cheerful girls. It is shocking to see her go like this.”
To express solidarity with the girl students, the boys in St Francis School have also decided to deactivate their accounts on Facebook and WhatsApp. Students of Loreto Convent and St Agnes took out a march to the district magistrate’s office to protest against the murder.
Gauri Srivastava, 19, went missing from her home on Sunday and though her parents tried to lodge a missing complaint, the cops ticked them off saying, “She must have run away. Wait for her to return.”
Nearly 48 hours later, the body parts of Gauri were found scattered over an area of one square kilometers near the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences. Post-mortem report revealed that the body was cut off with a motorized saw machine.
