Matang Sinh row: Top cop under scanner for interfering in probe
Internal probe has been initiated against an IPS officer posted with a paramilitary force
New Delhi: A day after Anil Goswami was removed unceremoniously from the post of home secretary, an internal probe has been initiated by the CBI against senior officials, including an IPS officer posted with a paramilitary force, to establish their suspected role in stalling the arrest of former Congress leader Matang Sinh.
Meanwhile, the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) is believed to have sought a detailed report from the CBI over the issue.
Sources said, “The role of a senior IPS officer in a paramilitary force has come under scanner for allegedly attempting to influence the CBI not to arrest Sinh in the Saradha case.”
A report about the conduct of the IPS officer, brought to the Centre by Mr Goswami, has been sent to the “higher-ups” in the government, they added.
