Mumbai: Music director Ismail Darbar was on Wednesday arrested in an alleged assault case in which the Amboli police had arrested his son and two others just a day before. Mr Darbar was produced before a magistrate’s court and released on bail.
According to the police, the assault occurred around 11pm on Monday in the parking lot of Evershine Building off New Link Road in Jogeshwari west. As per the victim Prashant Chowdhary’s (29) FIR statement, he had been working with Mr Darbar on a three month-long project but they parted ways after the first two months due to some differences.
“Mr Chowdhary had spoken to Mr Darbar on the phone and a verbal fight had taken place over payment for the latter’s work of two months. Mr Chowdhary alleged that Mr Darbar owed him Rs 30000,” said a source from the police. Upon confronting them over payment, Mr Darbar’s son Zaid (21), an artiste, and his friends Nishant Singh (21) and Mohsin Khan (29) abused Mr Chowdhary and assaulted him with kicks and a hockey stick. Mr Chowdhary suffered injuries to his face and nose and had to be taken to a hospital. He alleged that Mr Darbar was present at the spot as well.
Mr Darbar was arrested from near his Oshiwara residence. An FIR has been filed against all four accused under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and other relevant sections of the IPC.
