Andhra Pradesh asks Telangana to pay Rs 500 crore as share in loan payback
Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government has written to the Telangana government to pay Rs 500 crore as its share towards loan repayment to the Centre. United Andhra Pradesh had borrowed Rs18,935.49 crore till the end of March 2014 from the Centre. The Andhra Pradesh government is paying Rs155 crore every month to the Centre as loan repayment. This repayment has to be shared by Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in the ratio of 58:42. The Telangana government has to reimburse its share to the Andhra Pradesh government. Andhra Pradesh government has written to Telangana asking to pay Rs 500 crore as its share towards repayment of loan taken from the Centre.
The Andhra Pradesh government is searching for all possible sources to mobilise funds. Recently Tamil Nadu has paid Rs 25 crore as its share in the construction of the Telugu Ganga project for supply of drinking water to Chennai.According to the agreement the Tamil Nadu government has to bear one third of the project cost. The Tamil Nadu government is sending some funds every year to the Andhra Pradesh government and it has stopped giving funds from 1996.
The AP government also did not ask the Tamil Nadu government to pay the balance amount. AP Finance Secretary L. Premchandra Reddy had noticed that the Tamil Nadu government did not pay the balance amount to AP government. The Tamil Nadu government has to pay Rs 500 crore to the AP government. AP is supplying 5 TMC Krishna waters to Chennai for drinking purpose through the Telugu Ganga Project. Immediately the AP government wrote to the Tamil Nadu government to pay the arrears.
Recently the TN Chief Secretary came to Hyderabad and handed over a cheque for Rs 25 crore. He has assured to clear the dues in the next financial year by providing provision fopr it in the next budget. In the same way AP government noticed that the Telangana government has to pay around Rs 500 crore towards loan repayment to the Centre. Recently AP government wrote to the Telangana government asking it to pay Rs500 crore, but the Telangana government did not respond. The AP government wants to write another letter to the Telangana government to pay the amount.
