Hafeez Contractor shows city plan to CM K Chandrasekhar Rao
He gave a presentation at CM’s camp office on various projects
Hyderabad: Noted architect Hafeez Contractor, the designer of iconic buildings such as 23 Marina Towers in Dubai and Infosys Technologies' IT Parks across the country, on Monday met Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
His meeting was a follow-up to the earlier meeting he had with Mr Rao in December, 2014, when he offered to help the TS government in redesigning Hyderabad into a city of global standards.
Mr Contractor gave a powerpoint presentation at CM’s camp office in Begumpet on various projects that could be taken up in the city, particularly near the Musi River and Hussainsagar surroundings, where the TS government is planning to build skyscrapers.
He discussed proposals with the CM regarding construction to be taken up in Hyderabad and identified some locations for the purpose by examining Google Earth maps.
He also suggested designs for ‘Telangana Kala Bharathi’, an international convention centre, in the vacant land located opposite Indira Park. Mr Rao had earlier requested him to design the convention centres with four auditoriums with a seating capacity ranging from 3,000 to 600 each with ample vehicle parking space.
The CM also requested Mr Contractor to redesign areas surrounding heritage places such as Maozamjahi Market, Charminar, Hussainsagar and the Salar Jung Museum without disturbing their heritage value and ensuring that the new construction in these places supplemented their historical importance.
He also asked him to design parks on either sides of Musi besides parking facilities. He wanted Salar Jung Museum to be developed as an international museum.
