Censor Board beeps out 'Bombay' word from Mihir Joshi's song

The song was written in the aftermath of the Nirbhaya case

Mumbai: Musician Mihir Joshi was asked by the Censor Board to remove the word ‘Bombay’ from his new song ‘Sorry’. The song from the album ‘Mumbai Blues’ was released a couple of months ago, however the music video of the song recently aired on national television.

The song was written in the aftermath of the Nirbhaya case in 2012, and is Joshi’s way of putting forth the issue of women’s safety in the country through this song.

According to reports the decision was initially taken up by Censor Board Examining Committee under the guidance of former chief Leela Samson.

When the song aired on national television a few days ago, the word ‘Bombay’ had to beeped out as the name ‘Bombay’ officially changed to ‘Mumbai’ in 1995.
