Win & an expansion
The Telugu Warriors are now the the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL) 2015 champions and they won the tournament with ease.
The win comes alongside plans to make the tournament even bigger than what it is now, and if all goes right, the next edition of the game will see the inclusion of teams from Punjab and New Delhi.
Meanwhile, the Warriors haven’t stopped celebrating. Actor Venkatesh was the happiest person at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Uppal, as his team, The Telugu Warriors, became the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL) 2015 champions with ease.
“I have been waiting for the last five years for this moment,” says a jubilant Venkatesh, who cheered, danced and ran all over the stadium as the game progressed.
Venkatesh had missed the initial CCL matches but he was in Hyderabad to support the team. Apart from Venkatesh, Nagarjuna too was present to cheer the local boys.
Akhil Akkineni, who led the team, says, “Before the tournament began, all of us wanted to win for Venkatesh.” And it was Venkatesh and Akhil together who received the trophy.
The fact that the team had good crowd support also went in their favour. And after the match, the entire team took a victory lap around the stadium.
The next version of CCL will be much bigger, said Vishnu Induri, founder and CEO of CCL. He said that there would be two more teams for the next edition. “There will be Delhi and Punjab from next year and we will play in venues there too,” he added.
“This year was very exciting, not just because The Telugu Warriors won, but the entire tournament went off smoothly. It’s a big relief and I am happy that this year the CCL also came forward for a big cause (paying for heart operations for 100 children),” said Vishnu, adding that they would take up another cause next year.
