YSRC chief Jagan Mohan begins two-day hunger strike
Rajahmundry: YSRC chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy began his Rytu Deeksha, a two-day hunger strike, aimed at pressing the government to implement farm and Dwcra loan waivers, with a bitter attack on Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
Speaking at his hunger strike camp at Tanuku in West Godavari district, Mr Reddy said, “I know the hardships our farmers and women are undergoing as the government has failed to come to their rescue.” Though Mr Reddy was scheduled to start the deeksha at 10, am, it was delayed by over two and a half hours. He asked the organisers to allow a group of youngsters, who were energetically cheering him, to sit close to the dias.
He also led a two-minute silence to remember the 86 farmers who committed suicide either beause they failed to get their loans waived or because they were unable to get a fresh loan.
YSRC leader Dharmana Prasada Rao said, “When the state level bankers' meet fixed to extend credit worth Rs 56,900 crore to farmers, the state government provided only Rs 13,000 crore. The TD government waived loan worth Rs 3,900 crore while lakhs of farmers are awaiting the benefit. Farmers and Dwcra women are unable to get fresh loans.”
