Dilapidated buildings are to be replaced with shopping complexes. While walking through the market’s lanes, Mr Rao stopped to inquire about vegetable and meat prices. As part of security measures, all weights and knives were asked to be kept away.
Vendor Mohammed Issak said, “Monda Market has been serving as a retail market for 130 years. The market needs to be restored, especially the meat section. The surrounding are shabby, there are neither public toilets nor drinking water facility.”
Mr Rao directed the GHMC to take up construction of toilets, and provide water facility immediately. He asked the officials to ensure upkeep of the Monda Market which needs regular cleansing and fogging operations to get rid of mosquitoes.
