60 more children rescued

South Zone DCP Satyanarayana said that 45 of the children were from West Bengal

Hyderabad: The south zone police rescued 60 more children who were secretly employed in a bag manufacturing unit at Falaknuma. While the owners gave the slip to the police some suspected agents were taken into custody.

Following a tip-off, a special team searched the bag manufacturing unit where the children were found working in hazardous conditions.

South Zone DCP Satyanarayana said that 45 of the children were from West Bengal. He said raids are continuing in different parts of the old city.

Meanwhile, the police has got custody of the 19 accused people, agents and employers, for four days for interrogation.

“The court has given us custody of the suspects. We will be extracting information regarding the links between child trafficking and bonded labour in the old city,” said Mr Satyanarayana.

During a massive cordon and search operation on January 24, the police had rescued 220 children. On January 29 around 130 children from Bihar and Jharkhand who were found working in bangle factories were rescued. Most of these children are from Bihar, West Bengal, Karnataka and Jharkhand, police said.
