Outsourced staff of Andhra Pradesh to lose jobs

The AP government has decided to show the door to thousands of outsourced employees
Hyderabad: The AP government has decided to show the door to thousands of outsourced employees. Most departments have outsourced employees from assistant secretaries to drivers. More than 21,000 of such employees are currently working for the government. Some departments had hired them on recommendations of politicians and others.
In the past, the state government had stopped regular recruitments and had asked all departments to hire outsourced employees. However, there are no details with the government about the monthly expenditure on outsourced employees. There is no provision in the Budget to allot funds for their salaries. The departments are paying them from the department funds.
The government will only retain outsourced employees whose services are needed. It has also decided to frame guidelines for hiring them. In future, if any department wants to recruit outsourced employees, it must take the finance department’s permission.
“In the past, many departments hired outsourced staff without following any rules. On the recommendations of political leaders, some departments hired outsourcing staff even though they could not be given any work.
He said such employees are not paid well and the state will fix salaries for them. Generally the government extends the term of outsourced staff every six months. Now, only those employees whose services are required, will be given an extension,” AP finance minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu said.
