Delhi polls: Over 5000 liquor bottles seized by Election Commission
New Delhi: Election Commission officials seized 5,964 bottles of illicit liquor from a godown allegedly owned by AAP's Uttam Nagar candidate Naresh Balyan last night.
"A total of 5964 bottles (4473 litres) of Haryana-made liquor was seized from a godown by flying squad and police in a late night joint-operation," said a senior EC official.
Police are yet to ascertain the ownership of the godown located in Uttam Nagar area, poll officials said.
Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Naresh Balyan on Saturday said the bottles confiscated belonged to a BJP worker.
"I have no link with this property. The BJP always orchestrates such games. The allegations are baseless. The liquor has been confiscated from a BJP worker who is from our village," Balyan told ANI.
Election officials had conducted a raid on Balyan's Uttam Nagar residence this morning and lodged a first information report against him. Meanwhile, the Congress and the BJP have sought strict action against Balyan.
"The Election Commission should take a very strong view against this. His candidature should be cancelled," Congress leader J.P. Agarwal told ANI.
" AAP's degeneration is steepest in the history of degeneration. They should expel this member," said BJP spokesperson G.V.L. Narasimha Rao.
