Telangana government's land hunt gives all the jitters
Hyderabad: The Telangana government’s “land hunt” in the city for developing its own Parade Grounds has made various institutions edgy. Revenue officials in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts are conducting discreet surveys by claiming to have received directions from higher-ups in the government to identify prime properties worth thousands of crores of rupees.
The TRS government is maintaining utmost secrecy about the purpose of these surveys besides giving contradictory signals about building 100-storeyed buildings or shifting the Secretariat to these lands, which is adding to the confusion of officials and institutions.
Surveys were earlier conducted for Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy collectorates located in the heart of the city, these were apart from the 50-acre land belonging to University of Hyderabad in the posh Gachibowli area and the recent 60-acre chest hospital and mental hospital lands in Erragadda.
With surveyors in tow, revenue officials are creating “raid-like situations” in these premises to conduct surveys by marking boundaries and taking measurements. This is creating panic among staff in these premises as they are uncertain whether their office would remain in the city or shifted to the outskirts like Vikarabad along the lines of the chest hospital.
The CM’s Office itself is giving “leaks” of scouting for lands to develop its own Parade Grounds for conducting Republic Day and Independence Day programmes on Erragadda hospital lands or UoH lands.
