Two booty receivers held, gold worth Rs 42 lakh seized
Hyderabad: Six months after the arrest of notorious chain snatcher Syed Sayeed Hussain alias Lamba Hussain alias Lamba, the crime teams of the Panjagutta and Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar police have arrested two booty receivers. About one-and-a-half kilo gold ornaments worth Rs 42 lakh were recovered from them.
The accused are Mohd. Irfan, 34, a realtor and a resident of Fatimanagar and Shyam Sunder Sugand alias Sikhinder, 40, a goldsmith and resident of Charminar. Another receiver named Majeed Khan, 32, the owner of Rehaab Jewellers is absconding. He is said to have fled to Saudi Arabia.
Syed Sayeed Hussain alias Lamba and his gang members Mirza Azmath Ali Baig alias Ali and Mohd Akheeluddin alias Akheel alias Kalifa were earlier arrested by the Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar police. They are now lodged at the Chanchalguda prison.
West Zone DCP A. Venkateshwara Rao said the prime accused Lamba is involved in about 230 chain snatching cases and Mirza Azmath Ali Baig in around 158 cases.
Mohd. Irfan took the stolen gold ornaments from Lamba and gave it to Majeed Khan who fled abroad. Mohd. Irfan had fled to Dubai in December, but came to Hyderabad and surrendered before court after knowing that criminal cases have been filed against him.
Akheeluddin sold his share of stolen gold ornaments weighing around 100 grams to Shyam Sunder Sugand. The police recovered it. The police filed a petition in court and brought Mohd. Irfan out from prison. He was taken into custody and questioned. Based on his confession, police recovered about 930 grams of gold from one Tippu Sonu who purchased it from Majeed Khan, the owner of Rehaab Jewellers in Gulzar House.
Mr Venkateshwara Rao said that booty receivers will also be booked and if found repeatedly accepting stolen gold they will be booked under the PD Act.
