Nifty snaps 10-day winning spree after hitting 8,996.60

FPIs bought shares worth a net Rs 1,723.77 crore

Mumbai: The CNX Nifty snapped its last ten consecutive session gains, tumbling 144 points to close at 8,808.90 in the midst of an emerging market sell-off after hitting all-time high of 8,996.60 on fresh selling from operators mainly in Banking sectors.

The CNX Nifty resumed strong at 8,996.60 on initial strong buying in view of sustained foreign capital inflows. Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 1,723.77 crore yesterday as per the provisional data from the Stock exchanges. It declined afterwards to 8,775.10 on fresh selling before ending at 8,808.90, disclosing a loss of 143.45 points or 1.60 per cent. It had gained by 674.80 points or 8.15 per cent during last 10 days.

Major CNX Nifty lossers were BankBar 11.05 per cent, SBIN 5.52 per cent, Icici Bank 5.15 pct, PNB 4.75 pct and HDFC 4.03 per cent. However, HCL Tech gained by 8.66 pct, Tata Power 2.67 per cent, Bpcl 2.04 pct, Lupin 1.98 pct and DLF 1.95 per cent. Turnover in the cash segment fell to Rs 24,550.84 crores from Rs 25,432.31 crs yesterday.

A total of 12,991.61 lakh shares as against 11,306.09 lakh shares changed hands in 94,37,868 trades. The market capitalisation at NSE stood at Rs 1,01,00,218 crore.
