Xiaomi plans to launch Mi Note, Mi TV, and more products in India
Xiaomi, yesterday, launched the Mi 4 in India. The Mi 4 is a 2014 flagship smartphone and is placed in the high-end category. Sporting a Snapdragon 801 chipset, the Mi 4 is a premium-built Android-based handset priced at Rs 20,000.
At the launch event, in Mumbai, we spoke to Xiaomi VP Global, Hugo Barra, and Xiaomi India Head Manu Jain, who gave us some bites on the forthcoming products lined up for India.
For now, the Xiaomi Mi 4 16GB variant will be on sale, exclusively (again) on Flipkart, starting February 10. When asked about the availability of the 64GB variant, Xiaomi stated that they are planning to launch the Mi 4 64GB in a few weeks time. No prices for the same are revealed for now, as they are working on the price range for India. We expect the 64GB model to sell for Rs 22,000 in India.
Hugo Barra and Manu Jain spoke at the event, revealing that the Mi 4 64GB will shortly see the sales in India and the Mi Note and Mi Note Pro are the next in line. Apart from the two, the Mi Pad is also expected to sell in India.
Xiaomi also has plans for the Mi TV in India. However, they are yet to acquire sufficient content for India before they launch the TV. Speaking on the subject, Manu Jain commented that India is a big market for television audience and the Mi TV will definitely be a big launch for Xiaomi. Presently 4K TVs are selling at priced more than a lakh and the Mi TV will be priced at less than half the price. However, the Mi TV could only see the sale in India in 4-6 months.
Ex-Google executive and now Product Manager for Xiaomi India, Jai Mani was also present at the event. He revealed that Xiaomi is interested in implementing a complete eco-system into home automation, which is a big hit in China. India is yet to embrace the home automation system, but the price for implementing the same, at this point, very expensive and will take more than a year or two to be practical. At present, he is working towards bringing the Mi Air Purifier in India.
However, none of the above products mentioned above are given any timeline for a debut in India. Xiaomi is impatient to launch almost all their products in India, as soon as they can.
Xiaomi is a Chinese smartphone manufacturer and is presently ruling the top third position as the largest smartphone manufacturer in the world. Xiaomi made its presence in India in July 2014 and debuted the Flagship Mi 3 smartphone for Rs 13,999. Xiaomi shook the market with their next smartphone, a budget Redmi 1S and later with the Redmi Note 3G and 4G models. Xiaomi has now launched the Mi 4, which is a high-end smartphone for a mid-range price of just Rs 19,999.
