Hyderabad: In a move to embarrass the Telangana government, Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday asked the Centre to take over the operations of Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar dams immediately in order to ensure justice to the lower riparian state i.e. Aandhra Pradesh.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who reviewed the irrigation sector in Aandhra Pradesh especially on the Krishna river-based projects, instructed officials to write to the Centre on the need to bring both reservoirs under its control so that distribution of waters and allocations could be ensured.
On Wednesday evening, principal secretary of irrigation B. Adityanath Das wrote to the Centre to notify the operations and maintenance of both the dams under the Krishna river Management Board, the authority that was constituted as per the Aandhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.
Referring to the injustices meted out to Aandhra Pradesh by Telangana over release of waters to Krishna Delta, Nagarjunasagar Right Branch Canal under Nagarjunasagar Dam and to the Aandhra Pradesh projects under Srisailam Dam since bifurcation, the Aandhra Pradesh government asked the Centre to intervene and set things right in view of the several violations that allegedly took place over the last eight months.
