Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s sister Bela Sehgal and his friend, producer-dress designer Shabina Khan, threw a surprise party on Tuesday to celebrate the filmmaker’s Padma Shri. But the biggest surprise was the appearance of Shah Rukh Khan. The superstar not only showed up to congratulate his Devdas director but he stayed on for quite a while.
Says an invitee, “It was quite a night. All SLB’s closest friends had been invited by Bela and Shabina for the party. Shah Rukh’s appearance was a special surprise. Of course everyone only spoke to him about US President Obama using his dialogue from Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge in his speech.”
Interestingly the Shah Rukh-Bhansali dosti has been brewing ever since SRK’s bonding with Karan Johar went bust. The industry knows that Bhansali and Johar are not the best of friends.
Says a source close to Bhansali, “Shah Rukh has always been fond of SLB. They kept in touch even after Devdas. Some time ago SRK had gifted SLB a rare custom-made record player.
“At the party, Shah Rukh was in his element. He even forced a few drinks down SLB’s throat, though SLB doesn’t drink much.”
Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani actors, Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra, were also present, though Deepika Padukone was out of town.
