Brands like Intex, Wiio, iBall, Celkon etc are making their presence felt in the Indian market by continuously launching budget smartphones. This also raises a question to the quality assurance at the same time.

The WiiO WI Star 3G smartphone is one such smartphone, which offers a large screen and falls in the budget category. In order to know whether the WiiO WI Star 3G can be a handset worth spending on, the below given review helps you decide on the same.

Design and feel:

The Wiio WI Star 3G looks pretty similar to a Samsung S4 smartphone. It features a 5-inch (854x480 pixels) IPS display. The thickness of the smartphone measures around 9.8mm, has rounded edges and offers a good grip. The front panel of the 3G device offers three touch buttons- Menu, Home and Back. The power button is placed on the right side, whereas, the volume rocker takes its position on the left side of the phone and the USB port takes its position at the bottom of the device. The Wiio WI Star 3G smartphone weighs around 164 grams and is available in three colours – Black, blue and white.

The rear panel is made of a thin layered hard plastic, which stays firm on the phone. The 5MP rear camera is placed toward the top. The device also offers two SIM slots-one for micro SIM and another for mini SIM on the left side of the rear panel and a microSD slot on the right. The 2000mAh battery is placed in the center of the back panel.

Specifications

WI Star 3G sports a 5-inch (854x480 pixels) IPS screen and is powered by a dual-core 1.3GHz processor, with 512MB RAM. The dual-SIM 3G device runs on the Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system and offers 4GB in-built storage capacity, expandable up to 32GB via a microSD card.

On the camera front, WI Star 3G device features a 5MP rear camera and a 2MP front-facing camera, to capture HDR and panoramic shots. Wiio WI Star 3G smartphone is fuelled with a 2000mAh removable battery, which can last up to 120 hours on standby mode and 8 hours of talktime, according to the manufacturer. On the connectivity front, it also supports Bluetooth, 2G GSM800, WiFi, GPS and 3GWCDMA2100.

User Interface

The user Interface is no different from any other Android handset available in the Indian market. The Wiio WI Star has the basic Android features. It also offers the QUICK OFFICE software that allows you to create and edit documents, spreadsheets and presentation slides.

Camera

The 5-incher Wiio WI Star 3G features a 5MP rear camera and a 2MP front-facing camera. The camera of this device is not responsive at one click, but instead users need to click the capture virtual key twice. Due to slow responsiveness of the camera, the user might get shaky images.The front camera is only meant for average selfie photos.

Verdict

Even though the Wiio WI Star 3G is a budget handset, it doesn’t offer you the quality as expected. This handset is not meant for photography, but only as a conventional smartphone for emails and social networking. As this device has a classic look and is available for just Rs 3,999, you can use the Wiio WI Star 3G as a standby handset. It can also be beneficial for the ones who want to have a first hand experience while switching from a regular mobile to a smartphone.
