Apple’s Watch to have a battery life of less than 4 hours?
Apple is scheduled to launch the Watch in April, but the wearable is already under scrutiny. Sources state that the Watch could have a battery life of less than 4 hours.
Although Apple stated that the Watch’s battery will give you enough juice of at least a whole day, before you set it to charge, sources stated something different. When Apple unveiled the Watch, the tech giant proclaimed that the Watch could give you up to 4 days in complete standby, while giving you a regular usage of a full day on a single charge. However, 9To5Mac states that the Watch won’t last you more than 4 hours.
Sources close to 9To5Mac reported that the Apple Watch uses a relatively powerful processor and high-end display screen, which will drain the battery faster than expected. Tests done on a stripped-down version of iOS codenamed SkiHill revealed that the Watch, which uses an Apple S1 chip, runs at power with an Apple A5 processor, which is used on the current-generation Apple iPod Touch. Adding to that, the Watch uses a Retina-class colour display, which can fluidly display up to 60 frames per second. These two factors alone can significantly drain the Watch’s battery by a huge amount.
According to Apple, the tech giant expects the Watch to give you 2.5 hours on active use, 19 hours on combined usage, 3 days in standby time and 4 days in complete sleep mode. However, the sources stated against these values.
Sources, who did not want to be disclosed, claim that Apple has been stress testing the Watch before going on sale. They tested the device on standard use and the Watch lasted them just 3.5 hours. Intensive app usage (possibly gaming) reduced the battery life even further to 2.5 hours.
Early buyers may be in a tight spot, if the matter reported turns true. Those opting to get their hands on the early Watch are advised to wait a while longer till the market gives the wearable a go ahead after a thorough test.
