Telangana heads for more bypolls

The bypolls could become a referendum for the TRS governance in Telangana

Hyderabad: A spate of bypolls to Assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies are likely this year in Telangana. This situation has arisen due to the induction of Kadiam Srihari and Talasani Srinivas Yadav into the Cabinet and several MLAs from other parties joining the TRS. The bypolls could become a referendum for the TRS governance in Telangana.

As of now, Mr Kadiam Srihari can continue to represent Warangal in the Lok Sabha while being a minister in TS, including attending next month’s Parliament session like Giridhar Gomang attending the session while continuing as Odisha CM in 1998.

Mr Srihari may resign from his LS seat after getting elected as MLC in March. It is the EC’s responsibility to hold a bypoll within six months from the date the constituency is declared vacant by authorities.

Talasani Srinivas Yadav, the MLA elected from Sanathnagar Assembly seat on a TD ticket, got inducted into the state Cabinet and he submitted his resignation to the Assembly Speaker. It was under ‘consideration’ of presiding officer S. Madhusudana Chary.

There was a petition in the High Court demanding disqualification of the three TD MLAs including Talasani for joining the TRS without quitting the Assembly. The matter will be heard by the HC on Tuesday. It is said that MLCs who were elected on TD and Congress tickets and who have already joined the TRS might be accommodated by the ruling party in the coming MLC polls in February-March.
