Extension on illegal land rules fails
Hyderabad: The extension of the deadline for regularisation of land in Telangana has failed to create an impact. Applications are being received in large numbers only for the 'free regularisation scheme for the poor' of sites less than 125 sq. yards. There is poor response for sites over 125 sq.yards in the 'payment category' which can generate huge revenues for the government.
The original deadline expired on January 19. But owing to poor response, the government had extended the deadline for the free category till January 31 and for payment category till February 28.
However, 2.31 lakh applications were received under the free category, while only 9,000 applications were received for the payment category. The government has earned only Rs 57 crore under the payment category so far from the 25 per cent registration fee to submit applications, while the target was Rs 5,000 crore.
Even in the free category, large numbers of applications are coming only from Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts. The government has decided to take up awareness programmes on a large scale across the state asking people holding plots above 125 sq.yards to apply for regularisation before the deadline or face action later. It has asked officials to visit all colonies and inform people that those who failed to submit applications before the deadline will be treated as encroachers and the government will demolish the buildings on those lands and take back the land.
Officials will convey to the public that this is the last and final chance to get their lands regularised and they will lose their properties if they fail to do it.
