Congress honours widow for saving 10 lives during Muzaffarpur riots

The leaders of the Congress Party brought Shail Devi to Patna to honour her

Patna: A widow who saved 10 lives single handedly in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur during the recent riot was honoured by the Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee on the occasion of Republic Day in Patna.

Shail Devi a 50 year old woman risked her life and helped 10 people belonging to minority community trapped inside their houses when the mob had attacked Azizpur – Bhilwara village last Monday.

“I had never expected this kind of respect. I saved their lives because I felt it was my duty to help them. I was alone when the mob had attacked the village, I too was scared but seeing the plight of others I helped them and gave them shelter in my house”, Shail Devi said while she was being honoured by the Congress party.

The leaders of the congress party who had brought her to Patna in order to honour her have promised all kind of help to her.

Earlier the state government of Bihar too had honoured the woman for her courage. Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi had announced a cash reward of Rs. 51,000. The state government was also asked to give her additional help of Rs. 20,000 each for her two schools going daughters from the chief minister’s relief fund and had promised a house for her under Indira Awas Yojna.

The woman had been living with her two daughters and a son in Azizpur after her husband, a construction labourer died few years ago.
