Telangana CM Chandrashekar Rao adviser warns directors on portrayal of women
Hyderabad: Tollywood film directors got an earful from poet and Officer on Special Duty to Chief Minister over the portrayal of women, teachers and youth in Telugu films.
“I feel like slapping film directors who demean women, teachers and youth and promote lumpen culture,” said Desapati Srinivas. “Telangana doesn’t need films that demean women, teachers and youth,” he remarked creating a stir in film and political circles.
Accusing some Telugu film directors of destroying culture by showing women in a disgusting manner, he said TS cinema should not be like them and the state doesn’t need such films.
In an indirect swipe at noted film director Puri Jagannadh who reportedly said that making a film with good message to people would bomb at the box office, an angry Srinivas said he would slap such directors if he came across them.
“If such directors come before my I will slap them four times. Puri Jagannadh is one such harmful director in my opinion. He says if one makes a film with a good message, it will bomb at the box office,” he remarked.
Some movies show women in an insulting manner. In one film, a hero drags the heroine on sand like an animal and posters are pasted all over Hyderabad. Imagine what impression it will create on women. What attitude will you develop towards women, he asked.
“Some of the dialogues are equally disgusting. A father asks a kid why he doesn’t study. Pat comes the reply...what do I get in studying? Such dialogues spoil youth. There is hardly any hero who doesn’t smoke or drink (...in films). Some filmmakers are promoting lumpen culture. Telangana cinema should not be like this. We don’t need such films,” he asserted.
Desapati Srinivas made these comments while participating in a discussion on “States Reorganisation Challenges of reconstruction of Telangana State” organised by private college in Sangareddy, Medak district.
Telugu and other films are loaded with violence, sex, eve teasing and double meaning dialogues. In true filmi style, a car owner come driver Vinod from Bidar tried to abducted a woman at Kompally to marry her but dropped her near Patancheru after a hot police chase. Decoy She teams catch 80 eve teachers aged between 17 and 35, produced them before courts and some sent to jail in Hyderabad.
Several films with violence like Patas, Veera, Vikramarku, Legend, and Dammu got A certificate. Telangana advocates moved High court objecting to certain scenes in recent Telugu hit Gopala Gopal for belittling lawyers.
