PM Modi, President Obama seal major nuke deal over ‘Chai pe charcha’

PM Modi set a new precedent that shows the growing warmth in Indo-US relations

New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi on Sunday took his concept of ‘Chai pe charcha’ to newer heights by serving tea to the visiting US President Barack Obama on the sprawling lawns of the Hyderabad House.

The two leaders met at the official state guesthouse in the afternoon, where PM Modi hosted lunch for President Obama. After lunch the two leaders stepped out for ‘one-on-one’ meeting.

PM Modi and President Obama were engaged in animated conversation in what can be called a very important meeting to clear the logjam of the Indo-US Civilian Nuclear deal.

After a short walk around the lawns, the two leaders made themselves comfortable in separate single-seater sofas.

PM Modi while continuing his conversation picked up a silver teapot and poured tea into a white cup and saucer for the visiting US President.

The chemistry between the leaders of the largest democracies in the world was electrifying.

A leader pouring tea for a visiting head-of-state has been hitherto unknown, and PM Modi’s action has set a new precedent, which can only point to the growing warmth in Indo-US relations.
