Ex-judge to probe varsity food scam

There were irregularities committed in supply of food items to the hostel of the university
Hyderabad: A division bench comprising Chief Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta and Justice Sanjay Kumar of the Hyderabad High Court appointed a retired district judge to enquire into irregularities and alleged misappropriation of funds for supply of sweets, mixture, chicken and eggs to S.K. University hostel from 2008.
R. Sarath Babu, a businessman of the city, moved a petition challenging inaction of the authorities in taking action against the responsible authorities despite a report of a one-man commission found that there were irregularities committed in supply of food items to the hostel of the university.
The petitioner told the court that no action was taken till date. He also pointed out the fact that the commission and the university had forgiven the errant contractor on the ground that he refunded all the misused money.
While ordering the removal of the one-man commission, the bench appointed a retired district judge to look into the matter and decide the issue within four months.
