Andhra Pradesh, Walmart may collaborate
N. Chandrababu Naidu met several CEOs of corporate companies in Davos in Switzerland
Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu met several CEOs of corporate companies in Davos in Switzerland, on Wednesday during the World Economic Forum meet held there. He met Walmart international president and CEO David Cheesewright and discussed areas of collaboration.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office, AP and Walmart have agreed upon five areas of collaboration. As per the discussions, agriculture and horticulture products will be outsourced for export, especially those grown organically.
The company will also source agri-products from local farmers. To take this forward Walmart India CEO will meet Mr in April 2015. Meanwhile, in a meeting with Mr Naidu, Wipro chairman Azim Premji said that the IT-SEZ proposal, which was pending for three years, has been cleared in a record time of seven days.
Mr Premji agreed to support the state to develop Vizag as a digital city on pilot project basis. Wipro will set up a Santoor soap factory in Hindupur in Anantapur district. Mr Naidu also met Sunil Kant Munjal of Hero group and requested him to complete project in Sri City at the earliest.
Mr Naidu also met PepsiCo chairman Indra Nooyi. The company showed interest in setting up mango pulp units and also packaging and branding of coconut water in Konaseema.
To encourage coconut farmers in Konaseema, the company has expressed an interest in packaging and branding tender coconut water.
Ms Nooyi also mentioned that PepsiCo is keen on buying jowar, papaya, banana and other agri and horticulture produce. Ms. Nooyi agreed to buy the total production of mango pulp in the state i.e. 70 million tonnes. She added that the company has the capacity to purchase about 250 million tonnes of mango pulp and has come forward to set up mango-pulp units in Chittoor, Krishna and Godavari districts.
