Mumbai: Now we’re privy to all kinds of gup-shup from the filmi world, but we were very interested indeed when we heard that the makers of Khamoshiyan are trying to project lead actress Sapna Pabbi as the “new and improved” Mallika Sherawat in other words, as a sex siren to watch out for.
“This is a marketing strategy, to project her as the next Mallika Sherawat. Sapna is just going along with it,” said one of the actress’ concerned friends, adding that for Sapna’s well-wishers, the last straw came when she was asked to have a “midnight chat” with men, to promote the movie.
Apparently, the makers of the film had wanted Sapna to have the midnight chat possibly over radio, with only male callers, to capitalise on her role as a “mysterious seductress”.
“We were horrified when the idea was mooted. We felt that the men who would come on line to chat with Sapna at that time would hardly be gentlemen,” the friend says. The idea has been dropped. “We were concerned about the way Sapna was being projected. But this is her big ticket to Bollywood and she doesn’t want to come across as a spoilsport,” our source adds.
