Navy may allow women on warships

For the first time in history an all women's contingent will march on Republic Day

New Delhi: The Navy is working on a policy to allow women officers on board warships in the next few years. “The living conditions in ships are entirely different. We are modifying the ships and designing them as per the conditions required for women officers,” said a Naval officer, adding, “We are looking forward to it and hopefully it should be sorted out soon.” Women officers in all the three wings of the armed forces are not engaged in combat duties.

For the first time in history, all women contingents, comprising 148 officers, from the Army, Navy and the Air Force will march down Rajpath on Republic Day following a suggestion from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
