Honeymoon with TRS over: Digvijay Singh
Hyderabad: Taking strong exception to the Telangana Congress leaders’ lackadaisical approach, AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh on Tuesday asked party leaders to go on the offensive against the TRS government’s failures as it has enjoyed its honeymoon period.
Addressing the Telangana Congress coordinational panel meeting held in Gandhi Bhavan, Mr Singh suggested to the leaders not to spare TRS government for its failures and anti-people policies and advised them to organise agitations against it.
He said it is for the Congress leadership to concentrate on all anti-poor measures and broken promises of the government and take to agitations to build confidence among people towards the Congress.
The AICC leader also took the TPCC to task in his opening remarks stating, coordination among leaders is still lacking and the party is unable to put up a united fight against the TRS government which is bent on luring Congress leaders into its party.
He found fault with the TPCC leadership for not effectively taking counter measures when TRS leadership blatantly took several MLCs and MLAs of the party into their fold.
“I want to know why is it that TPCC is not taking any legal remedies against legislators who defected. Who stopped you from approaching the courts for redressal?” he asked.
Leader of Opposition in the Assembly K. Jana Reddy and Leader of the Opposition in the Council D. Srinivas however, conveyed to him that they have filed a case in the HC and submitted petitions with the presiding officers seeking disqualification of the defected members.
At this stage Mr Singh suggested to the leaders to organise massive dharnas and sit-ins, in front of the houses of defected legislators and shame them.
Referring to BJP national president Mr Amit Shah’s recent visit to city and preparing the BJP to grow as an independent party before 2019 polls, Mr Singh told Congress, “Let us not underestimate the BJP in Telangana beware of BJP”.
He also asked the party to gear up for the ensuing GHMC, Warangal and Khammam municipal corporation elections and show good results to demoralise the ruling TRS party. He asked TPCC president Ponnala Laxmaiah to prepare an action plan for party leaders and work for better coordination.
