Andhra Pradesh capital can’t meet deadline
Hyderabad: The construction of a temporary capital at Amaravathi may not be completed as expected by the Andhra Pradesh government.
Though Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is determined to shift to the temporary capital by June, construction companies have informed the government that it would not be possible to construct temporary offices with prefabricated frames by June.
The Infrastructure Corporation of Andhra Pradesh had invited proposals from reputed architects for preparing the master layout plan, architectural plans and drawings for the temporary office space to be developed in engineering, procurement and construction mode.
The INCAP said that the AP government intended to develop office space with a carpet area of about 5 lakh sq. ft to house various government offices.
The deadline for submitting proposals by the firms was January 16. The government will finalise the firm after scrutiny of the proposals submitted.
It will take the firms a month to submit the master layout plan and architectural plans, said an official. Only after that, the government will call for tenders for the construction work.
Sources said some companies have approached the concerned officials to inform them of their interest in constructing the temporary offices in Amaravathi.
But they said that constructing the capital with prefabricated frames will not be possible by June, as the process will take at least three months time. The construction will start in May, if there is no delay in calling the tenders.
