Row in Tamil Nadu over Jayalalithaa, Arun Jaitley meet

'Mr Jaitley has undermined political ethos through the meeting'

Chennai: Sunday’s meeting between the Union finance minister Arun Jaitley and the AIADMK general secretary J. Jayalalithaa has whipped up a political storm in the state with the Opposition crying foul over the timing and propriety of the meeting.

The DMK president M. Karunanidhi, in a statement wondered, “Is it appropriate for Union finance minister Arun Jaitley to go to the residence of convicted Jayalalithaa and meet her at a time when her appeal in the disproportionate assets case is pending in the court?”

Joining the issue was the Tamil Nadu state Congress president E.V.K.S Elangovan who said that minister Mr Jaitley has undermined political ethos through the meeting, which also rips off BJP’s anti-corruption mask.
