Bihar: 1 more charred body found
Patna: Fourteen persons were arrested on Monday for taking part in a mob attack in which three people were burnt alive and several others badly injured in a village in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar.
State police units camping in the village said the situation was now under control.
“We arrested 14 persons (for) the arson and the situation is under control”, said district magistrate Anupam Kumar. The incident occurred on Sunday after the body of a young man, Bhartendu Kumar, was recovered from a paddy field in Bhilwara village. Tension was simmering between two villages since Bhartendu eloped with a girl from a nearby village.
All hell broke loose on Sunday morning when few people from his village found Bhartendu’s body.
His furious relatives then attacked Bhilwara village, torching 25 huts and burning three people alive.
Fearing tension growing the state government constituted a two member committee to enquire the incident of violence and arson.
