UFO with ‘pulsating lights’ lurches in night sky over England

UFOs come in all shapes, sizes, and colors, but a recent sighting in England points to a purple, diamond-shaped object in the night sky above Tynemouth, England. Craig Lowther, a 43-year-old venture capitalist, was letting his dog out for a walk in their garden when he spotted a flashing light in the sky and captured the phenomenon on video.
Huffington Post reported the incident on January 19 claiming the object was flying an 'unusual flight path" and was "an unusual color for a plane…". According to Chronicle Live, during Lowther's observations, he noticed his camera was low on power, so he had to charge the battery. But the strange UFO was still there. To get a better look at what he was seeing, Lowther zoomed in on the object and "and what I saw surprised me. It appeared to be a dome with a bulge in the middle and it had pulsating lights on it."
Alex O'Neil, an astrophysics Masters scholar at Sheffield University told Chronicle Live in a follow-up report that what the star-gazing venture capitalist saw was most likely Sirius, the Dog Star. "The brightest star in the night sky is called Sirius and it is often mistaken for a UFO because of how bright it is and how low in the sky it is." But what about the pulsations, the twinkling lights effects? "It appears to be twinkling or pulsating because when light passes through the atmosphere, it becomes distorted," O'Neil explained. "Viewing Sirius through a telescope can be very confusing because it appears to move and change colour. It is all just a trick of the eye."
Chronicle Live also noted that Lowther's video seemed to spark several other UFO reports in the region. Some were wont to speculate that the unidentified flying objects were simply sightings of a police drone used by the Northumbria Police, but said law enforcement agency noted that they did not use drones, nor was their lone helicopter airborne that night.
