Arun Jaitley calls on Jayalalithaa, ignites alliance talk
'It was a courtesy call which lasted 40 minutes' - AIADMK Chennai Headquarters
Chennai: Union finance minister Arun Jaitley called on AIADMK general secretary J. Jayalalithaa at her Poes Garden residence on Sunday. “It was a courtesy call which lasted 40 minutes”, said a release from the AIADMK headquarters at Chennai. It said Mr Jaitley, who was on a day's visit to Chennai, went to the former CM's bungalow soon after his arrival, where she received him warmly.
The visit of Mr Jaitley, said to be close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, assumes significance as speculation has been rife for a long time that the BJP and the AIADMK could form a formidable alliance for the 2016 state elections to take on the Dravidian coalition that the DMK is trying to hard to sew up.
