Dissent a matter of discipline, say police
Hyderabad: Experts say the shocking incident of a constable assaulting a police inspector at Nampally exhibition ground should not be dismissed as an impulsive reaction but treated as a serious matter of in-subordination.
Sources from Central Zone police aver that there are many lower rank officials, who are harassed by their seniors on a regular basis and police constable Ravi Kiran, who allegedly attacked the Begumbazar Inspector, could be a victim of such harassment.
“A police official of his rank will never act in such a manner unless he has reached the end of his tether, where he could not take the harassment anymore. The incident is not just about anger or misbehavior, but probably was the last straw,” said an official, on condition of anonymity.
Talking to the media discreetly, police constable Ravi Kiran said that the inspector nursed a brutal attitude towards him. He said that instead of ordering him to do his duty, the inspector provoked him. “For hours, we were on our feet. I had sat down for just two minutes, when he came up and hit me first,” said the constable. Following the incident, Ravi Kiran was thrashed by other cops. He was taken to Osmania General Hospital with head injuries.
However, higher officials remained tight lipped about the incident. “We have started investigation. This is purely an internal matter of our department," said Abids ACP P Jaipal.
A day after the police constable allegedly attacked Begum Bazaar inspector G Shridhar, the Central Zone police booked a case against Ravi Kiran. Senior police officials said that the matter will be investigated from all angles by an additional Inspector from Begum bazaar police.
