Sanjay Dutt’s writing a script in jail
Mumbai: While his frequent furloughs have been the focus of much of the talk surrounding Sanjay Dutt’s imprisonment, his close friend in the film industry, Mahesh Bhatt, says the actor has been doing something very constructive indeed with his time. Sanjay has apparently been writing scripts in prison and has even asked Bhatt saab for his suggestions. Sanjay and Mahesh Bhatt have previously worked together in films like Naam, Sadak, Kartoos Dushmaan and Kabzaa.
“I spoke to him before he went back to Yerwada and we were supposed to meet and discuss a very emotional script that he has written, that he wanted my response to. He is working on this script in jail,” Mr Bhatt said.
The filmmaker — who has supported Sanjay through all his upheavals — also asserted that once the actor is out of prison, it will mark a new phase in his career. “I am certain that people have written his ‘obituary’ but they will be surprised. Sanjay has resurrected himself repeatedly. He keeps on being relegated to the dustbin of history — only to come back!” Mr Bhatt said.
However, he added that the actor would have to reposition himself to truly regain his stardom. “Now he has to be repositioned…like he was in Naam after his drug phase. Initially he will be so hungry that he will give a lot of his heart to that film (the one he takes up after being released),” Mr Bhatt said. “I don’t know if we will ever work together again, but if that happens, I will be happy to spend more time with him.”
