Hyderabad techie pushed IS ideologies on web, influenced more than 100 youngsters
Hyderabad: Investigation officials revealed that Salman Mohiuddin, the US returnee arrested on Friday by the police, had influenced more than hundred youngsters by propagating the ideas of Islamic state’s ideologies.
Cyberabad police sent him to judicial remand on Saturday after producing him before a local court.
However, Salman’s father Ahmed Moinuddin, a retired engineer asked the nature of crime Salman committed to book him under UAPA Act. He said that Salman must have had some material that were sympathetic towards some organisations, but he had not acted upon it. “There is a difference between thinking and action. He has not done anything illegal. He must be having some material about some organisations,” he said adding that he had not discussed ideological matters with his son.
His father added that Salman had to go to Dubai for a job since he did not get a family visa to USA. Salman is married and has two kids, who live in their house at Bazarghat.
The Cyberabad police responded that spreading the ideologies of a banned terror organisation and influencing others to join the organisation can attract charges under UAPA act.
However, investigation officials from Shamshabad zone have not confirmed if Salman had any connections in Syria or Iraq.
“We have to probe those details after taking him into custody. He is now in prison serving judicial remand, so we have not thoroughly interrogated him,” said Shamshabad ACP R. Sudharshan.
The officials said that Salman had several Facebook chats with many youngsters across the country about ISIS and their ideology. He runs Facebook pages under false names to promote ISIS in the country. In the last three months, he was actively researching and spreading IS ideology through social networking sites. Sources said that Intelligence officials were tracking his online activities for the last three months
Cyberabad Commissioner of Police C.V. Anand said that they are seeking his custody for 15 days to interrogate him as part of the probe.
Salman, a 32-year-old, who has a MS qualification from Houston, is a resident of Bazarghat, and was caught by Intelligence agency officials at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. He was going to fly to Dubai, from where, as police claimed, he was about to go to Syria.
