Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh’s riverfront capital city is all set to come up between Uddandarayunipalem and Venkatapalem near Borupalem village.
According to top officials the capital city will be constructed on 2,000 acres for which the Singapore government has been assigned the job of preparing a master plan. The core capital on the banks of the Krishna river will include important buildings like Raj Bhavan, Secretariat, Assembly, Head of the Departments (HoDs) amongst others. This will be treated as a high security zone. Areas earmarked for business, commercial and other activity will be declared as Central Business district.

On a 8-km stretch along the banks of the Krishna, the government plans to develop entertainment zones like parks, swimming pools. The government will retain the option of developing the entertainment activities on its own or to hand it to private parties.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is keen that the government retains the river front area. According to official sources the government estimate is that out of the 30,000 acres of pooled land, 15 per cent will go for towards developing infrastructure like roads, parks, drainage and other facilities. Nearly 8,000 to 9,000 acre will have to be returned to landowners.
The balance 6,000 to 7,000 acres will go to the government, of which the government hopes to sell around 3,000 acres in open auction. On the remaining 4,000 acres, the capital city will come up on around 2,000 acres while the balance 2,000 acre will go towards development of educational institutions and parade grounds etc.
The government has proposed to build the Raj Bhavan on 10 acre, 10 acre for Assembly buildings and five acre for the Secretariat.
The official residences of ministers will come up on one acre, while two acres will be reserved for housing IAS, IPS and IFS officers and three acres for the HoDs. The government has estimated that the total cost of construction of capital city will be Rs 1.10 lakh crore. The AP government has requested the Centre to release Rs 10,000 crore immediately to take up the construction of capital city works.
A Japanese team is expected to arrive in Hyderabad on January 23 to discuss the construction of the capital city. The AP government is undecided about developing the master-plan area on Swiss Challenge method, Public Private Participation (PPP) system or to entrust it entirely to private parties. The government will take a call on it after receiving the master-plan from Singapore and following consultations with Japan and Singapore governments.
The Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) has confirmed a land pool of 4,500 acres until Saturday.
