Kapil Sharma’s show quietly cut down to size

Kapil insisted on the change as he wanted to pursue his film career

Mumbai: The frequency of Colors’ flagship show 'Comedy Nights With Kapil' has been reduced from bi-weekly to once a week from January onwards. Interestingly, there was no official announcement from the channel regarding this important change in the weekend viewing schedule.

According to a source, “The channel wants to keep the frequency cut in 'Comedy Nights With Kapil' as quiet as possible. It was Kapil who insisted on the change as he wanted to pursue a film career. With the shooting of his film with Abbas-Mustan gathering momentum the show’s frequency had to be reduced.”

According to insiders, Colors intends to introduce another comedy show on Saturday nights in lieu of 'Comedy Nights With Kapil'. The format and content of the new show is now being worked out. Sunil Grover who has grown into a star in his own right says he now has time for other activities. “Doing 'Comedy Nights With Kapil' twice a week was a lot of pressure on our time. The content was suffering. Audiences’ expectations from the show have gone up. We have to take the show to the next level. That can only be possible now when we have more time to work on the content.”

Grover admits the pressure of delivering two episodes a week was taking its toll on his life. “I’ll now have some time to spend with my son Mohan. My film 'Main Gabbar' with Akshay Kumar is also around the corner. And I’m on the verge of signing another film.” Apparently, he will also be doing a key role in producer Sajid Nadiadwala and director Sabir Khan’s 'Heer Ranjha' that stars Tiger Shroff. Grover did a guest appearance in Tiger’s debut film 'Heropanti'.
