Barack Obama and wife Michelle Obama set a date at Taj Mahal
New Delhi: The crucial India visit of US President Barack Obama is likely to be a three-day affair starting January 25. As of now, the plan for the US President is to reach India early on January 25 morning, and stay till January 27. He will be the chief guest at this year’s Republic Day parade.
His packed schedule will include a visit to the Taj Mahal with wife Michelle, who is said to be extremely keen to visit the monument to love in Agra.
A US Secret Service team has already reached Agra and is working out details of the security arrangements for Obama and his wife. The final modalities of Obama’s visit, sources said, will be finalised at a high-level meet here on Friday to be attended by senior officials of the home and external affairs ministries, PMO, security and intelligence agencies along with their US counterparts.
On January 25 itself, there will be delegation-level talks between the two sides, led by Obama and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where wide-ranging discussions is expected on issues ranging from the civil nuclear deal, defence, clean and sustainable energy, space and ocean technology, counter-terrorism and carbon emissions.
This is likely to be followed by a joint press statement.
Among the key features of Obama’s visit will be his address to a round table conference with top corporate leaders and CEOs, much like Prime Minister Narendra Modi did during his US visit in September last year.
