Lutron comes to India with an affordable home automation system

Lighting can account for up to 10 per cent of a household’s yearly electricity usage

Technology has inevitably become an integral part of our personal lives, and most of us accept it with a lot of ease and excitement. However, as fascinating as it is, it may not always be very affordable. Similar is the case with home automation systems; as fascinating as the idea of switching lights on/off by just tapping your smartphone sounds, for most of us it feels like a far fetched dream. Why? Well it must not cost any less than a bomb.

Lutron, however, attempts to provide a solution for this, which is not only affordable but also environment friendly. Lutron lighting solutions allows one to have total home control when out of town or out for an evening in a hassle-free and intelligent way, by allowing access to the lightings via the Lutron mobile/tablet app.

Lighting can account for up to 10 per cent of a household’s yearly electricity usage, and up to 40 per cent a year in commercial buildings. It is noted that, in lighting of all kinds of commercial and residential establishments there is the potential to reduce energy consumption by 25 per cent to 50 per cent on lighting energy.

According to Lutron, there are many ways to save energy throughout a home; from dimmers, occupancy sensors and whole home light control systems, to window solutions that manage daylight and help control heating and cooling costs. Replacing a single light switch with any Lutron dimmer and you can potentially save Rs 2,000. Combining dimmers, sensors, and window shades maximize your energy efficiency.

Fortunately, installing a Lutron home automation system with integrated light and shade control doesn’t really come down to a very exorbitant figure. Consider a single room or studio flat, the cost to install a preset lighting control system would cost about Rs 45,000, and a complete home control system for a three bedroom apartment would cost an average of Rs 1,75,000.

More so, the running cost of a home automation system is substantially lower as compared to the conventional systems. So a home automation with total control of electric light and daylight will not only create a comfortable living environment, but also help save energy and money, while contributing to a greener planet.

Things to keep in mind when you go in for home automation

There are a few things that one needs to keep in mind while considering the shift to a home automation system.

If you are building or planning to build a new home and are planning to install home automation systems, it is important to plan it in the early phase. It is always less expensive to install home automation systems while a home is being built rather than to wait till the very end. With the architecture that you are looking at for your new home, the technology will be incorporated into it accordingly, blending in perfectly. However, if you are already residing in the house you need to get home automation system installed in, the cost upfront becomes much higher.
