Telangana state gets a record 5 women collectors

Ms K. Nirmala, a 2004 batch IAS officer, has been appointed collector of Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Telangana has created a record of sorts with half of the districts in the state, including Hyderabad, being headed by women collectors. After failing to induct a woman in his 18-member Cabinet, Chief Minister Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao has appointed quite a few women as collectors in his maiden administrative revamping exercise.

In the latest postings of 24 IAS officials on Monday, five women were appointed as district collectors, accounting for half the districts in the state. Few other women IAS officers were allotted crucial portfolios and some more are likely to be allotted key portfolios in the next round of appointments.

Ms K. Nirmala, a 2004 batch IAS officer, has been appointed collector of Hyderabad in the existing vacancy. Ms Neetu Kumari Prasad, a 2001 batch IAS officer, has been appointed as collector of Karimnagar replacing Mr M. Veerabrahmaiah.

Ms G.D. Priyadarshini, a 2002 batch IAS officer has been appointed as collector of Adilabad replacing Dr M. Jagan Mohan. She was serving as district collector of Mahabubnagar. Dr T.K. Sreedevi, a 2004 batch IAS officer, IAS (2004) has been appointed as collector of Mahabubnagar.

Ms V. Karuna, a 2004 batch IAS offices, has been appointed as collector of Warangal in the place of Mr G. Kishan. As expected, the four-day camp of CM in Warangal created the impact with collector Mr Kishan being shunted out. The CM expressed serious displeasure over his functioning in Warangal for failure in disbursing ration cards and pensions to eligible beneficiaries.
