New Delhi: In a firm message to party leaders who continue to make controversial remarks despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah asking them to refrain from making such statements, the BJP on Monday issued a showcause notice to its Unnao MP Sakshi Maharaj, who had courted controversy over his “Hindu women should produce four children to protect Hindu religion” remarks.
The Unnao MP has been given 10 days’ time to give an explanation.
While the BJP has been facing criticism over its leaders’ controversial remarks, the party leadership was also getting a negative feedback that such remarks by the Sangh Parivar and its own leaders are denting the BJP-led NDA’s good governance and development agenda.
The Unnao MP’s earlier remarks where he had described Nathuram Godse as a “patriot” had left the ruling BJP embarrassed.
