AAP, BJP, Congress confident of getting a majority in Delhi polls

Delhi has been under President's rule for almost a year

New Delhi: Major political parties in the capital including BJP, Aam Aadmi Party and Congress exuded confidence of getting a "majority" in the Delhi Assembly elections, the date of which was announced by Election Commission Monday.

The EC announced the much-awaited Delhi Assembly polls schedule, according to which voting would be held on February 7 and counting of votes on February 10.

"From the first day, BJP has been very confident of winning Assembly polls. From January 14, our candidates will start filing nominations. We will go among the people with full energy and seek their support in the forthcoming polls," Delhi BJP in-charge Praveen Kapoor said.

Laying emphasis on its "blueprint" for the Delhi's development, AAP said that the party will be rewarded for its "positive campaign".

"The party has put forth a blueprint for the national capital and has gone ahead with a positive campaign. We welcome EC's decision and we are sure of getting a majority," AAP leader Sanjay Singh said.

Congress, which faced a drubbing in the last Assembly polls in Delhi, too welcomed announcement of poll dates stating that the party is "sure" of scoring a majority.

"We welcome the decision of EC to announce the date of polling in the national. Congress will definitely perform well and form its government with full majority. We are very sure that Delhiites will vote for us," DPCC chief spokesperson Mukesh Sharma said.
